Weather Watching Activities for Groundhog Day

Every year, we celebrate Groundhog Day and look forward to finding out if spring is coming or if we’ll have six more weeks of winter. In this session, we will dive into the history of Groundhog Day and then explore some more science-based weather concepts. We'll discuss activities that can provide students with the opportunity to track weather data and make predictions about whether or not the Groundhog will "see its shadow." Join us for a Groundhog Day celebration with a science twist!

Teaching with Science Simulations in Lumio

Lumio has recently gotten an upgrade, with all new features such as widgets, templates, and a re-design of the platform! In this course, we'll be taking a look at the built-in PhET simulations within Lumio, and how you can use them to create engaging science lessons. You'll discover how to add these simulations to new or pre-existing content, as well as some tips for using them asynchronously or synchronously.

Using Google Drawings to Teach Elementary Science Concepts

Google Drawings is not just a tool for teachers, it can also be used for student learning. In this session, we will look at how to utilize Drawings to teach science concepts by using visuals. Students will be able to synthesize information and develop their own understandings rather than just memorizing facts.

Project-Based Learning: Space Exploration with Google

Project-based learning, in conjuction with the productivity and collaboration tools available in Google Workspace, can support and enhance student outcomes. The key elements of project-based learning, such as sustained inquiry, critical thinking, authenticity, student voice and choice, collaboration, reflection, and revision are enhanced through the use of Google Workspace. Join us on a space quest using Google Workspace.

Evaluating Science Lessons Using PICRAT and SAMR

Are you looking for unique lesson ideas that incorporate technology? In this session, we'll explore a science lesson and share tips for selecting a technology tool that is going to help you transform the lesson. We'll dive into the PICRAT and SAMR models for technology integration to help you assign a level to the tools you are considering. We'll also use these guidelines to evaluate technology integration. With this new knowledge, you will be able to evaluate your own lessons and ensure that you are creating valuable learning tasks and activities for your students.

Revising Traditional Labs with Inquiry Thinking - Part 2

Don't let those old textbook lessons go to waste! Now that you are familiar with inquiry thinking, join us as we transform traditional labs through the various levels of inquiry: confirmation, structured, guided, and open. After this session, you'll be ready to customize your own resources to best suit your classroom's needs.
