3D-Design Projects for the Art Classroom

Looking for ways to challenge your students in the art classroom? 3D design and printing has become a leading tool in education, especially when exploring STEAM and project-based learning. Join us as we share ideas for enhancing your pre-existing art lessons with 3D design. Plus, we'll go over activities that can help promote the interdisciplinary benefits of 3D design.

Creating Assistive Technology Using 3D Design

Sometimes people with disabilities may not have the means to purchase high-end versions of the equipment that is necessary to assist them in their daily lives. In this course, we will discuss how to get students thinking about assistive devices and how they can be created using 3D design. We'll go over how to guide students in developing solutions and creating cost-effective assistive technology.

Celebrate Student Success Using 3D Design & Printing

As educators, we wear many hats. We are listeners, planners, data collectors, and above all: motivators. In order to motivate our students, we are constantly looking for ways to celebrate their achievements. In this session, we will share ideas for designing prizes and other celebratory items to commemorate your students’ accomplishments for homework completion, attendance, and so much more!

MC: 3D Printing & Design: Session 4 - Going Further with TinkerCAD

Designing 3D models is made possible through computer-aided design (CAD) softwares. In session 4, we will continue to learn about the various tools in TinkerCAD to help you with your designs. We will explore how you can create patterns with the duplication tool, how you can place objects with precision using the workplace tool, and how you can engrave a text on your design.

MC: 3D Printing & Design: Session 7 - Slicing for 3D Printing

In this course, we will develop our 3D terminology by understanding the print settings of your slicing software. We will use the MakerBot Print and Cura to learn how support, speed, infill, among other things, can contribute to the quality of your printed design.

MC: 3D Printing & Design: Session 5 - Teaching with TinkerCAD

In this course, we will do a deep dive into the TinkerCAD Classroom. Learn how to create a class, add students, create and assign your own activities, and experince the student/user interface.

MC: 3D Printing & Design: Session 6 - 3D Slash

In the session 6 of this series, we will take a look at other ways students can design 3D objects to be printed.  The website, 3D Slash, encourages designers to start with a block or sphere and “design by subtraction” using hammers, chisels, and digital spray paint.  This is a great alternative for creating .stl files and is lots of fun!

MC: 3D Printing & Design: Session 2 - Hardware & Materials

Let's explore the hardware and materials that bring your 3D designs to life! In session 2, we will showcase the Ultimaker and Makerbot 3D printers. We will cover the basics of each printer so that you feel confident setting them up in your makerspace.

Creating a Winter Wonderland with CAD

The winter season brings to mind beautiful images of landscapes covered in snow and ice. In this session, teachers will learn how to incorporate CAD into their ELA classes. Students will write poems about something that signifies the essence of winter and then create symbols for those poems utilizing TinkerCAD!

Ultimaker: Optimizing Your 3D Print

The Cura software by Ultimaker is a free slicing software with over 200 settings to adjust your 3D print to fit your needs. Join us as we show you where to download the software and learn specific skills to enhance the details and optimize your 3D model.
