Student Engagement with Google Tools

Better Progress Reports in Google Classroom

Google Classroom is helpful for digital interactions and managing student work with Google Drive. However, one of the weaknesses of Google Classroom is the lack of reports. Classroom teacher Alice Keeler will show you how she uses a free teacher account in Schoolytics.com to create and share better progress reports with students and guardians. Use Alice Keeler's Chrome extension designed to make it even easier to share progress reports and feedback through Google Classroom.

In this session Monica Burns, author of EdTech Essentials will introduce the benefits of formative assessment with digital tools. Participants will explore how digital tools provide a special benefit for students as they increase student opportunities (frequency) and options (choice) to share their learning. This session will focus on formative assessment best practices and how to check for understanding using the resources within EdPuzzle.

This session will focus on formative assessment best practices and how to check for understanding before, during, and after instruction using the interactive presentation tool Nearpod.

In this session Monica Burns, author of EdTech Essentials will introduce the idea of curation and the role of an educator as a curator. Selecting “just right” resources for students is an essential practice for educators to help make sure the needs of all students are addressed.  In this session, we’ll explore how to pull together resources that connect to curriculum goals while supporting the needs of all students with the free tool Wakelet

Rube Goldberg Machines in the Classroom

In this session, Jennifer George shares how teaching Rube Goldberg in the classroom levels the playing field for all learners of all ages. She will talk about the history of the Rube Goldberg Institute for Innovation & Creativity, the origins of the Rube Goldberg Machine and the machine contests that the family has run for over 35 years.  She will also introduce a variety of new offerings that exist for all grade levels that want to get started creating Rube Goldberg Machines in the classroom.
