  • In this hands-on session, participants will learn how coding apps and workforce skills are inherently connected. Most businesses agree that soft skills are equally or more important than technical skills, specifically problem-solving and communication. Experiences like building a mobile app can help develop, enhance, and augment these skills. Using the six-step design thinking process, educators will build their own apps and build interest in computer science for students as early as elementary school. Additionally, educators will lay the foundation for vital and transferable skills that students will need in their education, careers, and beyond.

Alexandra Kummernes is a former journalist turned educator turned EdTech champion who believes computer science belongs in every classroom. With over a decade of teaching experience, she now uses her storytelling superpower and curriculum design expertise to help educators bring mobile app development and design thinking to life. At MAD-learn, Alexandra creates engaging content and leads professional development that empowers teachers and students to explore tech in meaningful, creative ways.

Caroline Westervelt brings more than 20 years of classroom experience—and a passion for coding—to MAD-learn’s Customer Success Team. A former middle school computer science teacher (and MAD-learn user herself), Caroline is now the go-to guru for all things coding. She helps schools seamlessly integrate mobile app development into every subject area, supporting teachers and students alike as they build confidence in computer science and creativity.
